Crime rate in Croatia: A very safe travel destination
Croatia is a very safe country compared to other European countries. The overall crime rate is low, especially violent crimes such as murder, robbery, and burglary are rare.
Tourists, however, are easy targets for petty crime such as pickpocketing and theft from cars, as is the case anywhere in the world.
In 2021, the murder rate in Croatia was about 0.9 per 100,000 inhabitants.
For comparison: Germany: 0.9 per 100,000 inhabitants,
Austria: 0.6 per 100,000 inhabitants,
Switzerland: 0.4 per 100,000 inhabitants,
EU average: 1.2 per 100,000 inhabitants.
The crime rate in Croatia is generally low.
