Destination Belgium
A country of remarkable diversity and charm, Belgium is a jewel in Western Europe. It may be small, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in rich history, culture and scenery. From the Flemish Masters to modern designers, from medieval castles to avant-garde museums, Belgium offers a fascinating mix of old and new. I mainly stayed in Brussels, but I have also been to Bruges, Hasselt, Ghent and many other places. Belgium is probably one of my favorite travel destinations in Europe.
Brussels, the capital of Belgium and the administrative heart of Europe, is known for its impressive architecture such as the Atomium and the magnificent Grote Markt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is a melting pot of cultures and languages, which is reflected in its diverse cuisine and lively nightlife.
Flanders, the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium, is home to some of the most beautiful medieval towns in Europe. Bruges and Ghent are famous for their well-preserved historic centers, canals and cobblestone streets that create a romantic atmosphere. Antwerp, the diamond city, is known not only for its gemstones, but also for its thriving fashion and art scene.
Wallonia, the French-speaking part of Belgium, offers a completely different experience. The Ardennes, a region of dense forests and rolling hills, is ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking and cycling. Historic cities such as Liège and Namur offer insights into the region's rich cultural heritage.
Belgium's coastline may be short, but it's lined with wide sandy beaches and charming seaside resorts like Ostend and Knokke-Heist. The Belgian coast is perfect for a relaxing day by the sea or for sporting activities such as sailing and windsurfing. Ideal for your holiday in Belgium.
Belgian cuisine is known worldwide for its quality and variety. Belgian chocolate, waffles, French fries and over 800 different types of beer are just some of the culinary delights that await visitors. Each region has its own specialties to discover.
Belgium is also a country of festivals and celebrations. From music festivals like Tomorrowland to historical parades and markets, there's always something to do. The Belgians are known for their hospitality and joie de vivre, which makes every event an unforgettable experience.
Culturally interested visitors will appreciate the numerous museums and galleries that exhibit works by artists such as Rubens, Van Eyck and Magritte. Theaters, concerts and ballet performances can be found throughout Belgium, offering a rich cultural program.
